Getting to know Abena:
“As a writer, dancer, and poet I seek to create works of art that are engaging (thought-provoking, relatable, touching) and that elevate.
When I dance, I feel honest, free, joyful and humble. Others have told me that they feel the same. This is what I mean by elevation and this is what motivates me.
I am motivated by my new friend- a visual and performance artist who was a dancer in her youth but now, in here fifties, feels like she hasn’t danced to her fullest potential. I’m also motivated by the desire to create a space for dance and cultural awareness for my three- year- old daughter who loves to dance. I seek to create spaces that foster expression, creativity and community- where old(er) and young can feel alive and in their element.”
