Picture featuring Japanese temple and mountain promoting Shakuhachi Guided Meditation at We Thrive on Feb 13

Join us for this unique meditation experience featuring guided meditation prompts and live soothing shakuhachi flute music played by Chris Dempster.

Come and release the stress that you have carried with you throughout your day, week, month and allow the soothing sounds of the flute transport you into a deeper state of being.

What is a Shakuhachi?

The shakuhachi is a traditional flute made from bamboo- it is also known as a Japanese zen flute. There was a zen sect that played the Shakuhachi as meditation which was called suizen or blowing meditation. The sound is said to lead you inward towards the heart.

Chris fell in love with the sound of the flute the first time he heard it on a recording almost 40 years ago but was told that it was one of the hardest flutes to blow. Skip forward 20 years and a shakuhachi teacher crossed his path. Chris says that when he heard his teacher play for the first time, it was like hearing the sound of Tao.  Chris has dedicated himself to honing his craft on the streets of Toronto, busking over the past 8 years. We’re delighted to have him bring his meditative music to our studio for the first time!
